A gas leak in the basement of the Sandman Signature Hotel, a historic building in downtown Fort Worth, triggered a massive explosion that injured at least 11 people and damaged several nearby structures. The blast occurred around 3:45 p.m. CST on January 8, 2024 and sent debris flying across the street, shattering windows and collapsing walls. The hotel was evacuated and one person who was initially reported missing was later found safe.

The Sandman Signature Hotel, located at 810 Houston Street, was formerly known as the W.T. Waggoner Building, a 20-story landmark that was built in 1920. It was one of the tallest buildings in Texas at the time and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The cause of the gas leak is still under investigation, but authorities suspect that it was related to the ongoing construction work in the basement of the hotel. The fire department, the police department, and the gas company are working together to secure the scene and assess the extent of the damage. 

The explosion shocked the residents and visitors of Fort Worth, who expressed their sadness and concern for the victims and the historic landmark.
